Today, we cycled to the confluence of the Fraser (muddy) and Thompson (clear) Rivers.
We spotted an Osprey and her nest, perched above the river, near the town of Lytton, BC.

We have been following the Fraser River upstream since our starting point in Fort Langley. But after Lytton, we abandoned the Fraser and headed north along the Thompson River. The forecasted thunderstorms never arrived and we had pleasant weather all day.

Going up Jackass Mountain, Vince's derailleur broke. We left him by the side of the road and cycled ahead to find a telephone. Bud and Jason picked him up and brought him to Spence's Bridge.

Although our route included lots of climbing today, we also were lucky enough to have strong tailwinds (ever stronger as the day progressed), pushing us along. Makes me nervous for tomorrow; we are turning to the south, through a pass, towards Merritt and if the wind keeps up, I think we will be heading straight into it.
Karl, Dean, and I were the last of our group of 20 cyclists to pull into camp, and it was just 2:30 pm. It is gorgeous here; we are camping right by the river.

There is no bicycle shop in town, so a guy from about 50 miles away drove in with a new derailleur for Vince.
Dean and I went biking around the Spence's Bridge community. We found an old cemetery,

with the grave of somebody related to the town namesake,

a church,

and spotted a waterfall across the highway. We learned that this is actually considered high desert, and gets very little annual precipitation.
